When you go microdosing, you take a minimal dose of a psychedelic substance (lsd, magic mushrooms, truffles, mescaline, etc.) periodically - say, every 3 days - for a few months. The dose you take is so low that it does not cause you to trip, you remain completely "in control. What you do notice with microsing is that it gives you (among other things) a better mood, more energy, more focus and change of perception.
The purpose of microdosing is to experience the benefits and healing powers of psychedelics, without the intensity of a full dose. So without "tripping.
Why do people choose microdosing?
The reasons why people go microdosing with psychedelics vary. We have listed the most common reasons for you below:
- Improved mood and creativity: Many people report improved mood and creativity after starting microdosing. They experience increased productivity and better overall mood, resulting in more creative "output" (in other words, you get more done) and a more positive outlook on life.
- Relief from anxiety and depression: For some people, microdosing can be an effective way to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. By taking small amounts of psychedelics regularly, they experience relief from their symptoms and an improvement in their overall well-being.
- Improved focus and cognitive performance: Microdosing can lead to improved concentration and cognitive function. People find it easier to focus on tasks and notice an increase in their mental sharpness and clarity.
The most commonly used psychedelics for microdosing are LSD (or the legal variety, 1P-LSD), psilocybin (the active substance in truffles and magic mushrooms), and to a lesser extent mescaline, DMT, MDMA, ayahuasca, ketamine and ibogaine.
In this article, we focus on (1P)LSD, truffles and magic mushrooms.
Studies have shown that microdosing with psychedelics can indeed help relieve symptoms of depression, anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In addition, some studies suggest that microdosing can promote neuroplasticity, which can lead to long-term positive changes in the brain.

Is microdosing with LSD safe?
While microdosing is generally considered safe for most people, there are some potential risks to keep in mind when considering microdosing with (1p)LSD, truffles or magic mushrooms.
Microdosing can be dangerous in the following situations:
- Mental disorders: People with a history of mental illness, such as schizophrenia, psychosis or (severe) bipolar disorder, may be at increased risk of developing psychotic symptoms from using psychedelics - even at a microdose. If you have such a condition, you should be extra careful and possibly seek advice from your doctor or other professional.
- Epilepsy: Some psychedelics can cause epileptic seizures. Care should be taken when using psychedelics if you have epilepsy, and it is also advisable to consult a doctor first in this case.
- Drug interactions: Psychedelics may have interactions with certain medications, particularly monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and other drugs that affect serotonin levels. These interactions can be potentially dangerous and should be taken seriously. Are you taking any medications? If so, always do your own research and consult a physician before starting microdosing.
Never microdose in combination with Tramadol or Lithium!
See also: interaction with and medications - Interactions with other drugs; Psychedelics usually do not go well with stimulants such as cocaine and amphetamines (speed). People can become paranoid from this combination. If you are a regular user and want to microdose, consider reducing your use or at least not microdosing on days when you are taking a stimulant.
- If you are undergoing treatment; If you are undergoing treatment related to your mental health, or if you have undergone major surgery and are still under treatment, for example, we do not recommend consuming psychedelics - even in microdosing. Always consult your doctor or therapist first.
- Driving; If you are a professional driver or drive heavy machinery it is not wise to microdose on weekdays. For more information, see the article on microdosing and driving.

If you are healthy/fit and not on any medications, then you can confidently start microdosing. If you are taking medication, consult a doctor if possible to make sure the medication you are taking does not interact with the drug you want to microdose with (there is a lot of information online on this topic).
If you have mental health issues, if you suffer from psychosis or a mental disorder, if you have epilepsy or if you are under treatment, be extra careful when microdosing psychedelics and consult a doctor, therapist or other professional before you start microdosing.
